Supreme Court: In an application filed by Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee and his wife Rujira Banerjee seeking to travel abroad for medical treatment, the division bench of Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia, JJ. directed the Directorate of Enforcement (‘ED') to withdraw the Look Out Circular (‘LOC') issued against Abhishek Banerjee and his wife in connection with the money laundering allegations in the alleged coal scam.
Initially, the Delhi High Court was hearing the matter, and in its order, it refused to quash summons issued against Abhishek Banerjee and his wife for appearance in Delhi for interrogation in connection to coal scam. In 2022, the Supreme Court stayed the said order and directed ED to interrogate Abhishek Banerjee and his wife at Kolkata, instead of Delhi.
