Supreme Court takes suo motu cognizance of dismissal of 6 female Judges by MP Government

The termination orders were passed based on their unsatisfactory performance during the probation period.

Supreme Court: The Division Bench of BV Nagarathna and Sanjay Karol, JJ. took suo motu cognizance of termination of six female civil judges from their services by the Madhya Pradesh Government. The Court also issued notice to the Registrar General of the High Court.

In June, 2023, the Government had sacked six female civil judges from their services. According to the reports, the termination orders were passed by the State law department on the basis of their unsatisfactory performance during the probation period, including their case disposal rate not being upto the standards set.

The Court appointed Advocate Gaurav Agarwal as amicus curiae to assist the Court in the matter. The matter was listed for a hearing on 02-02-2024.
