SC directs Registry to stop referring to Trial Courts as Lower Courts

Record of the Trial Court should be referred to as the ‘Trial Court Record’ and not ‘Lower Court Record’.

Trial Courts as Lower Courts

Supreme Court: While hearing a petition for special leave to appeal against the Allahabad High Court’s decision, the Division Bench of Abhay S. Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan, JJ. has directed the Registry of the Court to not refer to the ‘Trial Courts’ as ‘Lower Courts’.

The Court said that it will be appropriate if the Registry of the Court stops referring to the Trial Courts as ‘Lower Courts’.

The Court also said that the record of the Trial Court should not be referred to as the Lower Court Record, but as ‘Trial Court Record’.
