Delhi High Court: In bail applications filed by the four co-owners of the basement of a coaching centre in Delhi’s old Rajinder Nagar area where three civil services aspirants died on 27-07-2024 due to drowning, a Single Judge Bench of Dinesh Kumar Sharma, J. granted them interim bail.

The interim relief was subject to the petitioners’ submitting Rs. 5 crores with the Red Cross Society which would be utilised by the Lieutenant Governor to streamline the running of coaching centres.

The Court requested the Lieutenant Governor to form a committee to ensure that no coaching centre is permitted to run without permission.

The applicants sought bail on the grounds that they were merely landlords of the basement which was rented out to the coaching centre and could not be held responsible for the accident.
