Department of Personnel & Training appoints and extends the additional charge of several Presiding Officers of DRTs

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet appointed 11 new Presiding Officers and extended the additional charge arrangements of 8 existing Presiding Officers in various cities.

Debts Recovery Tribunal appointments

On 20-12-2024, the Department of Personnel & Training under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions issued a notification informing that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (‘the Committee’) had approved the appointment and extension of additional charge arrangements for existing Presiding Officers in Debt Recovery Tribunals (DRTs) for a few cities.

According to the notification, the Committee has approved the appointment of 11 Presiding Officers in nine DRTs for a term of four years or till attainment of the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier, which are as follows:

  1. Ahmedabad:

    • DRT-2: Pankaj Kumar Upadhyay, a former Additional District Judge from Uttar Pradesh Higher Judicial Service.

  2. Aurangabad:

    • DRT: Jhamman Ram Chauhan, a former District and Sessions Judge from Haryana Superior Judicial Service.

  3. Bengaluru:

    • DRT-2: T. Rajesh, an advocate and former Presiding Officer of DRT-2, Chennai

  4. Chennai:

    • DRT-2: Chandrashekhar U, a former District Judge, OOD, and Senior Faculty Member from Karnataka Judicial Academy

    • DRT-3: S.V. Gowramma, an advocate and former Presiding Officer of DRT-2, Chennai

  5. Coimbatore:

    • DRT: N. Somasundaar, an advocate and a former Presiding Officer of DRT-1, Ernakulam

  6. Jaipur:

    • DRT: Vimal Gupta, an advocate and former Presiding Officer of DRT, Aurangabad

  7. Lucknow:

    • DRT: Pravas Kumar Singh, a former Principal District Judge from Jharkhand Superior Judicial Service

  8. Mumbai:

    • DRT-1: Sreekala Suresh, a former Family Court Judge from the Judicial Department Kerala High Court

  9. Ranchi:

    • DRT: Vinod Kumar Srivastava, a District Judge from Uttar Pradesh Higher Judicial Service.

The Committee also approved the extension of additional charge arrangements for eight Presiding Officers in seven DRTs for six months, till the joining of the regular incumbent, or until further orders, whichever is earlier, which are as follows:

  1. Ahmedabad:

    • DRT-2: Anil Kumar Gupta, Presiding Officer, DRT-1, Ahmedabad

  2. Aurangabad:

    • DRT: Murumkar Dilip Ganpatrao, Presiding Officer, DRT, Pune

  3. Bengaluru:

    • DRT-2: Imtiaz Ali, Presiding Officer, DRT-1, Bengaluru

  4. Chennai:

    • DRT-2 and 3: A.S. Jayachandra, Presiding Officer, DRT-1, Chennai

  5. Coimbatore:

    • DRT: Seema Sinha, Presiding, DRT, Madurai

  6. Mumbai:

    • DRT 1: Pankaj Kumar, Presiding Officer, DRT, Nagpur

    • DRT 2: Murumkar Dilip Ganpatrao, Presiding Officer, DRT, Pune

  7. Ranchi:

    • DRT: Kaushalendra Yadav, Presiding Officer, DRT, Patna
