About the Literary and Debating Committee

The Literary and Debating Committee at NLUJA, Assam, aims to foster an environment where students can articulate their ideas, refine their oratory skills, and express their creativity. Literature plays a pivotal role in preserving culture, heritage, tradition, art, and imagination. The committee is dedicated to promoting discussions, celebrating literary expression, and encouraging intellectual exploration beyond academic texts.

Focused on nurturing free speech, healthy debates, and discussions on social issues, the committee strives to instill confidence and cultivate a robust debating culture among students. It serves as a platform for students to engage in Literature, Quizzing, and Debating, providing opportunities to enhance their communication and analytical abilities.

About The Lost Stories

The Lost Stories is the annual literary magazine of NLUJA, Assam, published under the guidance of the Literary and Debating Committee. The magazine offers students a creative outlet to break away from routine academics and display their artistic and literary talents.

Call for Submissions

The 5th edition of The Lost Stories welcomes submissions of unpublished and original works across various formats. These include written pieces such as poetry, prose, essays, opinion pieces, book and film reviews, as well as visual and fine arts like photography, paintings, digital art, sketches, and travelogues. It also encourages humorous content and any other form of self-expression and creativity.

Theme

Submissions are open-ended and need not adhere to a specific theme. Entries may focus on personal reflections, lifestyle topics, or broader social issues intended to raise awareness among readers. While we welcome all forms of creative expression, including academic submissions, we particularly encourage contributions that highlight fine arts and artistic works, offering a platform for visual storytelling and imaginative exploration.

Who Can Submit?

Contributions are invited from students, academicians, research scholars, and anyone eager to showcase their creative talent.

Submission Guidelines

  • All submissions to the magazine should be original and should not be simultaneously considered by any other publication.

  • The language of the submissions should be in English.

  • Citations should be in the form of hyperlinks.

  • Co-authorship is allowed to a maximum of two authors.

  • Font — Times New Roman, Font Size — 12, Line Spacing — 1.5.

  • Plagiarism limit is limited to 10%. Submissions with a higher plagiarism will be rejected.

  • All written submissions should be in the form of a Word document (.doc or .docx format). The Submissions shall include the following:

    1. Articles: The entries can be on any contemporary topic of your interest with a word limit of 1500-2000 words, excluding footnotes or endnotes. Longer posts might be considered depending on their quality.

    2. Poetry: Haikus, sonnets, limericks, or the good old free verse; your poem can be of any kind or topic in the universe. While there is no such limit on words, it is preferable to have one-page entries.

    3. Prose: Entries can include stories (fictional or non-fictional), opinion pieces, essays, travelogues, book reviews, and film reviews with a word limit of 1000- 1500 words.

    4. Visual and Fine Artwork: Entries can include painting, sketch, digital art, photographs (only acceptable in high resolution .jpeg format), hand-drawn comics, manga strips, etc. All such submissions must be submitted in the form of high-resolution images. Images must be your original work. Basic editing, including colour enhancement, the use of filters, and cropping of the images is acceptable, provided any such editing does not affect the authenticity and/or genuineness of the submission. A submitter/ contributor must refrain from using any advanced editing techniques that create illusions, deceptions or that manipulate the image (for example: adding or subtracting significant elements within the image).

Submission Deadline

The deadline for submission is February 23rd, 2025, 11:59 PM IST.
