About NLU Odisha:
National Law University Odisha (NLUO) was established in 2009 by Act IV of 2008 of the State of Odisha. The NLUO is a one-of-a-kind addition to India’s national law universities. It is located in the Cuttack city, also known as “Silver city” of Odisha. This is a city that has been around for over a thousand years. It has a long and illustrious legal history, with the seat of the Orissa High Court located here. As a result, it is no surprise that Cuttack is home to some of the best lawyers and attorneys in the country, including two former Chief Justices of India.
Within the short span of less than a decade, NLUO had made its mark as a university focusing on teaching and research in law. Its objective is to provide a world-class legal education that is relevant in the contemporary world. NLUO has built a name for itself by winning awards for its students’ remarkable performance in a variety of tournaments and contests, notably moot court competitions. The university’s astounding achievement in some of the most prestigious International moot court tournaments like the Oxford Price Media Law Moot, Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot, Ian Fletcher International Insolvency Law Moot, HSF Competition Law Moot – Kings College London, and various National moot court competitions stand as a testament to it.
The university with similar zeal has been successfully organising its flagship moot “International Maritime Arbitration Moot (IMAM)” for eleven years in a row to draw some of the best minds in the booming disciplines of maritime law and arbitration, honing their advocacy skills.
About the International Maritime Arbitration Moot (IMAM):
The International Maritime Arbitration Moot (IMAM) is the first in India and the third in the world to focus on maritime law. The purpose of the moot is to improve students’ research and advocacy skills in the areas of Maritime Law and International Commercial Arbitration. The University strives to present a more challenging debate for its participants with each new edition in order to reach new heights. NLUO has successfully organized its flagship moot, the “International Maritime Arbitration Moot (IMAM)” for the past ten years, attracting some of the brightest minds and honing their advocacy skills in the burgeoning fields of maritime law and arbitration.
The Moot Society of National Law University Odisha takes immense pleasure in announcing that the University is organizing the 12th Edition of its flagship mooting event – the 12th National Law University Odisha & Bose & Mitra & Co. International Maritime Arbitration Moot.
The case study for this edition has been drafted by Prof. Andrew Tettenborn, Chair in Law, LLM Shipping & Trade; Prof. Simon Baughen, Professor (Maritime Law), LLM Shipping & Trade; & Prof. Dr. George Leloudas, Professor, LLM Shipping & Trade; at The Institute of International Shipping and Trade Law, Swansea University, The United Kingdom.
We at NLUO-IMAM believe in a rigorous selection process with an aim to ensure that the best teams proceed from the preliminary rounds and compete for the coveted prize. Thus, the teams participating in the moot have to mandatorily qualify the memorial rounds of the moot, after which the top twenty (20) teams shall be representing their universities in the oral rounds of IMAM scheduled to take place from 21st — 23rd March, 2025.
