Delhi Govt notifies rules to enhance transparency of FIR process in NCT of Delhi

FIR filed electronically has to be signed by the informant within 3 days.

Delhi BNSS (FIR) Rules

On 28-2-2025, the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi notified the Delhi BNSS (First Information Report) Rules, 2025 to ensure that FIRs are registered promptly and accurately. The provisions came into force on 28-2-2025.

Applicability: whole of NCT of Delhi

Key Points:

  1. Information received under Section 173 of Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 relating to “Information in cognizable offences” will be converted to First Information Report (‘FIR’) on Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (‘CCTNS’).

  2. Such information will be entered into Integrated Investigation Form-I in Annexure A.

  3. In case the information received is in electronic form, FIR will be issued after the informant has signed it within 3 days.

  4. A printout of the FIR has to be kept in the Register-I in Police Station records.
