SC directs release of YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s passport, considering the completion of investigation in India’s Got Latent controversy

Earlier, the Court stayed his arrest in two FIRs registered in Maharashtra and Assam, subject to his cooperation in the investigation, while barring him from doing any further shows.

Supreme Court: The Division Bench of Surya Kant and N. Kotiswar Singh, JJ. ordered the release of the passport of YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia, following the completion of the investigation in the FIRs registered in Assam and Maharashtra over his alleged ‘obscene’ comment in the ‘India’s Got Latent Show’.

The Court allowed him to apply to the authority concerned for the release of the passport.

On 18-02-2025, in Ranveer Gautam Allahabadia v. Union of India, 2025 SCC OnLine SC 698, while staying Allahabadia’s arrest in the said matter, the Court laid down several directions, including depositing the passport as a condition for the interim stay of his arrest. It was directed that he shall deposit his passport with the Investigating Officer of the Police Station Nodal Cyber Police, Thane and shall not leave the country without prior permission of the Court.
