Supreme Court Collegium Round-up for August 2023 | 26 Transfers and 12 Appointments of High Court Judges recommended

A recap of the Resolutions passed by the Supreme Court Collegium in August 2023 to appoint and transfer High Court Judges for better administration of justice and to address the issue of judicial vacancies.

The month of August saw the Supreme Court Collegium issue weekly Resolutions recommending transfer and appointment of Judges to various High Courts. In this month a total number of 26 Judges were recommended to be transferred and proposals were made to appoint 12 High Court Judges (which includes appointment of Permanent Judges and appointment of advocates and judicial officers as Judges)

Recommendations for Appoint High Court Judges

Supreme Court Collegium recommends appointment of 2 Judicial Officers and 1 Advocate as High Court Judges

The Collegium comprising of Dr Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, the Chief Justice of India and Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Sanjiv Khanna passed a Resolution on 17-08-2023 whereby which they recommended the names of 2 Judicial Officers and 1 Advocate to be appointed as High Court Judges.

Supreme Court Collegium recommends appointment of Justice C.S. Sudha, Additional Judge, as Permanent Judge of Kerala High Court

The Collegium comprising of Dr Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, the Chief Justice of India and Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Sanjiv Khanna passed a Resolution on 17-08-2023 whereby which they recommended the name of Justice C.S. Sudha, Additional Judge, for appointment as Permanent Judge of the High Court of Kerala.

Supreme Court Collegium recommends appointment of Permanent Judges for the High Courts of Karnataka and Madras

The Collegium comprising of Dr Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, the Chief Justice of India and Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Justice Sanjiv Khanna in a Resolution dated 31-08-2023, recommended the appointment of Additional Judges as Permanent Judges for Karnataka and Madras High Courts.

Supreme Court Collegium recommends transfer of 9 High Court Judges

In its Resolution dated 03-08-2023, the Supreme Court Collegium comprising of Dr Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, Chief Justice of India and Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice Surya Kant and Justice B.R Gavai resolved to transfer 9 High Court Judges for better administration of justice.

Supreme Court Collegium recommends transfer of 14 High Court Judges

In a series of Resolutions passed on 10-08-2023, the Supreme Court Collegium comprising of Dr Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, Chief Justice of India and Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice Surya Kant and Justice B.R Gavai resolved to transfer 14 High Court Judges.

Supreme Court Collegium recommends transfer of Justice Sudhir Singh from Patna High Court to Punjab and Haryana High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium comprising of Dr Justice DY Chandrachud, Chief Justice of India, and Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice BR Gavai and Justice Surya Kant on 11-08-2023 resolved to transfer Justice Sudhir Singh, currently Judge of Patna High Court to Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Supreme Court Collegium recommends transfer of Justice Rajnish Bhatnagar from Delhi High Court to Rajasthan High Court

The Collegium comprising of Dr Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, Chief Justice of India and Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice Surya Kant passed a Resolution on 16-08-2023 whereby which they recommended to transfer Justice Rajnish Bhatnagar, who is currently a Judge of Delhi High Court to Rajasthan High Court.

Supreme Court Collegium reiterates its recommendation to transfer Justice Nani Tagia, Judge, Gauhati High Court to Patna High Court

The Collegium comprising of Dr Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, the Chief Justice of India and Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice Surya Kant on 24-08-2023 reiterated their recommendation dated 23-08-2023 to transfer Justice Nani Tagia to the High Court of Judicature at Patna.
