Supreme Court stays defamation proceedings against Tejashvi Yadav over “only Gujaratis can be cheats” remark

Supreme Court: In a transfer plea filed by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashvi Prasad Yadav seeking transfer of the trial from Gujarat to neutral place, concerning the criminal defamation case filed against him for allegedly saying that “sirf Gujarati hi thag ho sakte hai”, the division bench of Abhay S. Oka and Pankaj Mithal issued notice on the petition, and also stayed the proceedings before the Gujarat Court.

The defamation case has been filed by Hareshbhai Pranshakar Mehta, the vice president of All India Anti-Corruption and Crime Preventive Council. He stated that Tejashvi Yadav’s remark had caused “mental and physical harm” to Gujaratis.
