Supreme Court: In the bail plea by the mafia turned politician Mukhtar Ansari’s elder son Abbas Ansari against the Allahabad High Court order, wherein the Court denied him bail in arms license case, the 3—Judge Bench of BR Gavai, Sanjay Karol and Sandeep Mehta, JJ. sought the response of the Uttar Pradesh government to a bail plea.
In 2023, the Allahabad High Court while denying bail to Abbas Ansari, observed that huge quantities of arms and ammunition were recovered from his house in New Delhi. It also noted metal-jacketed bullets were also recovered, which were not allowed by a shooter. Further, the Court said that, since Abbas Ansari is a Member of the Legislative Assembly, there were chances that he might influence witnesses.
It was alleged that Abbas Ansari transferred the license from Lucknow to Delhi without informing the relevant police station and continued using licences from two different States under distinct identity cards. Further, in 2015 his gun license from Lucknow became invalid, thus, he obtained a new license in New Delhi in 2017 and purchased seven firearms.
