[1990 Fake Arms License case] Varanasi Court sentences former UP MLA Mukhtar Ansari to life imprisonment

Varanasi Court: In a 1990 fake arms license case, the Court sentenced gangster turned politician Mukhtar Ansari to life imprisonment.

He was convicted under Sections 467 read with Section 120-B and Sections 420, 468 of the Penal Code, 1860 (‘IPC’). He was also convicted under Section 30 of the Arms Act, 1959.

In 1987, Mukhtar Ansari applied to the district magistrate, Ghazipur, for a double-barrel gun license. Afterwards, the arms license was acquired using forged signatures of both the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police. In 1990, when this was exposed by the Crime Branch, Crime Investigation Department, a complaint was filed with the police. Subsequently, based on this complaint, a case was registered in Ghazipur against five individuals, including Mukhtar Ansari.

He is currently incarcerating in Banda jail, UP.
