Rouse Avenue Court: Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, J. extended Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Directorate of Enforcement (‘ED’) custody in Delhi Excise Policy case till 01-04-2024.
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED at his residence in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case on 21-03-2024, after the Delhi High Court refused to grant interim protection to Arvind Kejriwal. The Rouse Avenue District Court granted custody of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to ED till 28-03-2024.
In his plea against his arrest and remand, the Delhi High Court on 27-03-2024 held that any order passed in the application for his interim release, pending disposal of the main petition without calling for ED’s reply, at this stage, would rather amount to deciding the main petition itself.
On 20-03-2024, the Delhi High Court sought response from the ED on maintainability of the plea filed by Kejriwal challenging the nine-summons issued to him by the ED. Two weeks’ time was granted to the ED for submitting the reply and the matter was listed for 22-04-2024. Earlier, the Rouse Avenue Court granted bail to Kejriwal subject to furnishing bail bond of Rs 15,000 and a surety of Rs 1 lakh. ED’s investigation had revealed that K Kavitha MLC, Telangana Legislative Council along with others conspired with the top leaders of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) including Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia for getting favours in the Delhi Excise policy-formulation and implementation. It was alleged that in exchange for these favours, K Kavitha paid an amount of Rs. 100 Crore to the leaders of AAP.
