Punjab & Haryana HC acquits Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in 2002 Ranjit Singh murder case

Ranjit Singh was Dera manager who was shot dead in 2002, allegedly on speculation that he circulated an anonymous letter, highlighting the cases of sexual exploitation of Dera’s female followers.

Punjab and Haryana High Court: In an appeal filed by Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh against his conviction and sentence of life imprisonment by the CBI Court in Haryana’s Panchkula in the murder case of former Dera manager Ranjit Singh, the Division Bench of Sureshwar Thakur and Lalit Batra, JJ. acquits Dera Chief and four others who were convicted.

However, Ram Rahim would continue to remain in jail as he was also convicted in another case of rape and in case of conspiracy to commit murder.

On 10-07-2002, former Dera manager Ranjit Singh was shot dead, as the manager was suspected in circulation of an anonymous letter, highlighting the cases of sexual exploitation of Dera’s female followers.
