Nagpur Court sentences former BrahMoS engineer to life imprisonment for leaking data to Pakistan’s ISI

Former BrahMoS engineer sentenced life imprisonment

District Court, Nagpur: District and Additional Sessions Judge MV Deshpande, convicted and awarded life imprisonment to a former engineer at BrahMoS Aerospace Pvt. Ltd., for spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency- Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

The former engineer was arrested in 2018 on allegations of leaking sensitive information about the BrahMos, to the ISI, committing offence under various provisions of the Official Secrets Act, 1923, Penal Code, 1860 and the Information Technology Act, 2000.

The chargesheet revealed that during the course of investigation and examination of the personal hard disk and laptop of the former engineer, it was found that the secret and restricted record and files were on his laptop. A software on his laptop was used for transferring important secret and sensitive classified information to the foreign countries and antisocial elements. Prima facie, it appeared that 4,47,734 cache files were leaked from his laptop and hard disk.

He was in jail for more than four years and six months, when he was granted bail by the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court on 03-04-2024.
