Supreme Court Collegium recommends appointment of Judges for three High Courts

The Supreme Court Collegium comprising of Dr Justice DY Chandrachud, CJI, Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice BR Gavai, on 13-8-2024, recommended several names to be appointed as Judges for the High Courts of Allahabad, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.

The recommended names are as follows-

Allahabad High Court

The Collegium recommended the names of 9 Additional Judges to be appointed Permanent Judges-

(i) Justice Syed Qamar Hasan Rizvi,

(ii) Justice Manish Kumar Nigam,

(iii) Justice Anish Kumar Gupta,

(iv) Justice Nand Prabha Shukla,

(v) Justice Kshitij Shailendra,

(vi) Justice Vinod Diwakar,

(vii) Justice Prashant Kumar,

(viii) Justice Manjive Shukla, and

(ix) Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal

Andhra Pradesh High Court

The Collegium recommended the names of 2 Additional Judges to appointed as Permanent Judges

(i) Justice Venkata Jyothirmai Pratapa, and

(ii) Justice Venuthurumalli Gopala Krishna Rao

Gujarat High Court

The Collegium recommended the names of 4 Advocates to be appointed as Judges.

(i) Sanjeev Jayendra Thaker,

(ii) Deeptendra Narayan Ray @ D N Ray

(iii) Maulik Jitendra Shelat

Remission for Re-consideration

Tejal Vashi, Advocate

The Collegium had to consider the elevation of Advocate Tejal Vashi for elevation as a Judge of Gujarat High Court. The Collegium considered the inputs provided by the Department of Justice in the file, wherein it was indicated that the candidate enjoys a good personal and professional image and that there is nothing adverse about her integrity. On an overall consideration of the proposal,

The Collegium was of the considered view that the proposal for elevation of Tejal Vashi be remitted to the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court for being re-considered with other eligible candidates in future.
