Training Programme on New Criminal Laws

The Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies (ICPS) organised its fourth training programme on India’s newly enacted criminal laws. The training programme on “New Criminal Laws” for officers and officials of various Ministries of Centre & State, Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and Legislative Assemblies, a two-day programme was organised from 2nd to 3rd September 2024 at Committee Room, Parliament Library Building, New Delhi-110001. The fourth programme of the series was inaugurated on 02-09-2024 with an overwhelming response from departments and Ministries (Centre and States). A total of 194 participants attended the two-day session.

ICPS is renowned for its role in advancing Constitutional and Parliamentary studies and has established itself as a leading centre for legal education and reform.

About Training Programmes on New Criminal Laws

The training programmes on criminal laws represents the Institute’s second major initiative in the area of legal education and reform. It is designed to equip legal professionals with the expertise needed to navigate the new legislative framework. The first session of this flagship programme, held on May 29-30, 2024, was met with outstanding success, attracting over 100 nominations and receiving high praise for its depth and clarity.

The second session, conducted on June 21-22, 2024, saw participation from more than 80 officers and officials, further solidifying the programme’s importance.

The third session continued this trend, with over 100 nominations, reflecting the growing relevance of the new laws. So far, over 300 officers and officials have been trained, underscoring the programme’s wide impact and the increasing need for such comprehensive training.

Recommended by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the training programmes underscores the importance of continuous legal education in adapting to these significant reforms which have been brought about by the New Criminal laws. The MHA’s recommendation highlights ICPS’s crucial role in preparing legal professionals for the successful implementation of the new laws.

Fourth Training Programme

The recent and fourth training programme featured a distinguished panel of experts. First day of the programme focused on Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, while the second day was related to discussion on Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023.
