The government of Andhra Pradesh established Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University (DSNLU)vide DSNLU Act, 2008 at Visakhapatnam to impart quality legal education. It is recognized u/s 2(f) of theUGC Act, 1956, and the BCI. It has also been granted 12b status by the UGC.Its mission is to design and deliver legal education and promote academic achievements and excellence inlegal research.Theuniversity offers Five years integrated B.A. L.L.B (Hons.), Three years LL.B And One year L.L.M(Constitutional law, Criminal law, and Commercial law). It also offers doctoral and post-doctoral degrees inlegal studies.

About DPIIT, Chair DSNLU

The DP-IIT Chair at Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University (DSNLU) is a significantacademic initiative established in collaboration with the Department for Promotion ofIndustry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.It aims to advance research, education, and policy advocacy in the areas of IntellectualProperty Rights (IPR), trade policy, and their role in India’s industrial and economic growth.The Chair serves as a vital link between academia, industry, and policymakers, driving legalscholarship and policy development. It also plays a key role in promoting innovation andprotecting traditional knowledge and local industries through IPR.

At DSNLU, the DP-IIT Chair fosters collaboration among students, legalprofessionals, and policymakers, contributing to India’s National IPR Policy. Itemphasizes the role of IPR in supporting innovation, startups, and MSMEs whilealigning its research with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally,the Chair focuses on identifying and protecting Geographical Indications (GIs) fromAndhra Pradesh, aiming to empower local economies and preserve culturalheritage. Through its research, workshops, and publications, the Chair strengthensIndia’s intellectual property framework and enhances DSNLU’s role in legal andeconomic development.

Recently under DSNLU’s DPIIT-Chair, members of Centre for Intellectual Property Rights andTechnology, undertook a survey on “GI & Sustainable Development Goals,” focussing on 5prominent Geographical Indications in Andhra Pradesh. Our members visited and interviewedthe producers and artisans involved in the production of these 5 notable GI’s —EtikoppakaToys, Mangalagiri Sarees, Uppada Sarees, Guntur Sannam Chilli and Tirupati Laddu, to achieve a proper understanding of the circumstances and the challenges they face. The survey hasbeen successfully completed and the results and suggestions of the research assistants havebeen duly forwarded to the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministryof Commerce and Industry, GoI.

About CIPR&T

CIPR & T was established in 2017. It is a student-initated and student-led body, currently supervised by Dr. Dayananda Murthy C.P. with Dr. B Neelima serving as the faculty advisor.

CIPR & T Objectives

  • To create a platform for creation, protection, analysis, valution, licensing, education and policy formulation in the field of IPRs and Technology.

  • To serve as a ‘Think Tank’ to provide policy inputs on IPRs and Technology at National Regional and International levels.

  • To do research on inter-disciplinary aspects of IPR and Technology by involving multi stakeholders.

  • To disseminate information on social, ethical, legal and economic aspects of IPRs and Technology

  • To engage in capacity building and providing inputs on IPRs and Technology to policymakers, including the judiciary.

Eligibility &Team Structure:

  • Students pursuing the five-year or three-year LL.B. course or its equivalentfrom any recognized law school/college/university in India are eligible toparticipate.

  • Each team shall consist of 2 members from the same College or University.

  • Total of 32 teams will be registered on first come first serve basis.

Date of Competition:October 20, 2024.

Competition Format:The IPR Online Quiz Competition will be organised in Four Levels.

  • Preliminary Level (32 teams)

  • Quarterly Level (16 teams)

  • Semi-final Level (8 teams)

  • Final Level (4 teams)

Themes:

  • General IP — Copyright, Trademark, Patents, Designs, Geographical

  • Indications &Traditional Knowledge

  • International IPR Framework

  • Specific Focus sectors: Fashion & Entertainment, Sports & IPR, Environment

  • and IPR, Outer space & IPR, Health & IPR, AI & Block chain Technology.

Prizes:

  • Winning Team – Cash Prize of Rs. 5000 + Certificate of Excellence.

  • Runner Up Team – Cash Prize of Rs. 3000 + Certificate of Excellence.

  • All participants will receive e-Certificates of Participation.

  • Prizes will be distributed on October 26th, 2024, at DSNLU,

  • Visakhapatnam.

Competition Structure:

  • Total of 32 teams will be selected on first come first serve basis.

  • The quiz will be organised in four rounds, beginning with preliminary round consisting of 32 teams. A link and a team code will be sent to each team via registered mail to login into the competition. And the top 16 teams among 32 will advance to Quarter finals.

  • The Quarter Finals feature 16 teams divided into 2 groups, with 8 teams per group. Time limit for each question is 30 seconds. Teams earn 2 points for each correct answer and 1 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer. The 8 teams (4 teams from each group) with the highest scores move on to the Semi-Finals.

  • In the Semi-Finals, 8 teams compete with each other. Time limit for each question is 40 seconds. Teams earn 5 points for each correct answer and 2 marks will be deducted for every incorrect answer.

  • The top 4 teams advance to the Final Round, where each team answers 5 questions. Time limit for each question is 60 seconds. Correct answers in the Final Round are worth 10 points, while incorrect answers lead to a 3-point deduction.

Tie Breaker

  • In the event of a tie, a bonus question will be posed to the tied teams to determine the winner.

General Rules:

  1. 1.No pass questions will be allowed at any stage of the competition.

  2. In case of ties at any stage, the bonus question will be used todetermine advancement.

  3. Participants are expected to adhere to the principles of faircompetition and avoid any form of misconduct.

  4. The decision of the quizmasters will be final and binding in all rounds.
