Supreme Court Collegium Recommendations
The Supreme Court Collegium comprising of Dr Justice DY Chandrachud, CJI, Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice BR Gavai on 15-10-2024 passed resolutions recommending appointment of Judicial Officers and Advocates as Judges and Additional Judges as Permanent Judges for Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka High Courts respectively, thereby recommending 8 names.
Supreme Court Judges’ Strength
There was no change in the picture vis-a-vis Supreme Court’s Judges’ strength. With Justice Hima Kohli’s retirement, the number fell from 34 to 33. No recommendations were made by the Supreme Court Collegium vis-a-vis existing vacancy of 1 Supreme Court Judge.
However, in October, the current Chief Justice of India, Dr D.Y Chandrachud, recommended the name of Justice Sanjiv Khanna as his successor. Subsequently, the President of India in exercise of powers under Article 124(2) of the Constitution, appointed Justice Sanjiv Khanna, seniormost Judge of the Supreme Court, as the 51st Chief Justice of India. He will take charge of office with effect from 11-11-2024 after the retirement of Dr Justice DY Chandrachud on 10-11-2024.
Justice Sanjiv Khanna was elevated to the Supreme Court on 18-1-2019 and is due to retire on 13-5-2024, which means he will have a tenure of almost 6 months as Chief Justice of India.

Patna High Court
Shashi Bhushan Prasad and Ashok Kumar Pandey, Judicial Officers, were appointed as Judges.
Gujarat High Court
Advocates Sanjeev Jayendra Thaker, Deeptendra Narayan Ray and Maulik Jitendra Shelat, were appointed as Judges.
Bombay High Court
Advocates Nivedita Prakash Mehta, Prafulla Surendrakumar Khubalkar, Ashwin Damodar Bhobe, Rohit Wasudeo Joshi, and Advait Mahendra Sethna, were appointed as Judges.
Karnataka High Court
Justice Siddaiah Rachaiah, Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court was appointed as Permanent Judge.
Andhra Pradesh High Court
Advocates Maheswara Rao Kuncheam @ Kuncham, Thoota Chandra Dhana Sekar @ T C D Sekhar Challa Gunaranjan, were appointed as Additional Judges.
Kerala High Court
Parameswara Panicker Krishna Kumar, Kodassery Veliath Madom Jayakumar, Muralee Krishna S, Jobin Sebastian, and P.V Balakrishnan, were appointed as Additional Judges.
