The National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) on 12-11-2024, notified that the Chief Justice of India, Sanjiv Khanna, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3-A of Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, nominated sitting Supreme Court Judge, Justice Surya Kant as Chairman of Supreme Court Legal Services Committee (SCLSC) with immediate effect.
Justice Surya Kant, who had been the youngest Advocate General of Haryana, was appointed as Judge of the Supreme Court on 24-5-2019. He is also likely to serve as Chief Justice of India from 24-11-2025 till his retirement on 09-02-2027.
