The National Law University, Jodhpur is delighted to host the West and South Asia Regional Round of the 23rd John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition, organised by the European Law Students Association (ELSA) and the Research & Advisory Centre for International Economic Law (Centre), in collaboration with the Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL), Lakshmikumaran Sridharan Attorneys (LKS), Centre for WTO Studies (CWS), Sarvada Legal, and SCC OnLine. The rounds will take place from March 7th to 10th, 2025, at National Law University, Jodhpur.

About the John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition (JHJMCC)
Since 2002, ELSA has organised the John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition (formerly known as the ELSA Moot Court Competition on WTO Law). This prestigious competition serves as a platform where young legal minds engage with complex issues of international trade law and WTO dispute settlement. It brings together talented students, trade academics, practitioners, and members of the WTO Secretariat to strengthen legal expertise in international economic law.
Now in its 23rd Edition, the competition welcomes hundreds of participants from all over the world to participate in the Regional Rounds to compete for a spot in the Final Oral Round which takes place at the World Trade Organization in Geneva every year.
About the West and South Asia Regional Round of JHJMCC
The West and South Asia Regional Round will witness participation from some of the brightest law students, competing to demonstrate their legal acumen and advocacy skills. The West and South Asia Regional Round will bear witness to teams from various universities displaying their legal expertise and advocacy skills. These teams shall be adjudicated by esteemed guest panellists drawn from prominent academics and practitioners, including Dr. James J. Nedumpara (Director, CTIL), Mr. Claude Chase (Associate, Baker McKenzie), Mr. Shashank P. Kumar (Dispute Settlement Lawyer, WTO), Mr. Anand Nandkumar (WTI), Ms. Sneha Singh (WTI), and Mr. Sanath Wijesinghe (OUSL, Colombo), amongst others.
Theme of the Competition:
The Case for the 23rd Edition of the Competition deals with measures affecting electronic goods and digital services regulation within the WTO framework.
Participants in the Competition will engage in complex cross-cutting issues surrounding the domestic regulation of data flows, enforcement of competition norms in the digital economy, local content requirements in digital streaming, and their compatibility with WTO law.
Panel Discussion:
The Competition will be followed by a Panel Discussion that delves into contemporary challenges in international trade and WTO law. The Panellists will include prominent academics and practitioners in the field of international trade law.
The Theme for the Panel Discussion is ‘Trade and Sustainability: Changing Paradigms’, and will be held on 10th March, 2025 at National Law University, Jodhpur.
