Call for Papers | National Conference on Access to Justice and Legal Rights in the Age of AI [5th April, 2025]

1. About the University

Established in 2014 and situated in Kolkata, West Bengal, Adamas University is a prominent institution renowned for its commitment to providing quality education across various disciplines. The institution prioritizes research and innovation, encouraging faculty and students to engage in groundbreaking research projects across multiple domains. It maintains collaborations with industry partners and research organizations to ensure real-world applications of academic pursuits. Approved by the Bar Council of India, the School of Law & Justice of Adamas University was established in 2015 and kindles a vision to impart justice-oriented education and on-field knowledge. In addition to teaching law, law school focuses on developing skills for critical and prudential judgment to make aspiring legal minds great professionals, as the principal goal of legal education is formative rather than informative.

2. About the School of Law & Justice

AU SOLJ stands at the cutting edge of legal education by imparting fascinating interdisciplinary studies for law students. Vibrant campus life coupled with cross-pollination of knowledge is at the core of SOLJ’s teaching and learning process. Modern pedagogy with emphasis on library orientation, moot court training, and trial advocacy skill development; the Law School at Adamas is always buzzing with activities. SOLJ stands as the flag bearer of a modern-day new age teaching-learning ecosystem, with law students even having the option to undertake courses on robotics, AI, etc., amidst a plethora of interesting electives offered by the Law School from time to time. Also, with technology at the forefront and intertwining with all walks of life in this era, at SOLJ, we focus on the intersection of technology and law in classroom teaching across five years of the Law School. Talks, Workshops, and Events (Seminar, Webinars, Conferences, National Moot Court Competition, Nukkad Natak, Annual Fest-Adinova, etc.) with eminent experts from India and abroad, are being conducted regularly, which include professionals from top-tier Law Firms, Universities, and corporates of national and international repute. The Law School is currently running a course with Law Shikho to impart practical training to the students beyond classroom teaching. It also presents multiple avenues through which students may avail themselves of the opportunities offered by the University through numerous foreign collaborations and MOUs. At AU SOLJ, a dedicated Moot Mentor is designated for participating teams to hand-hold and improve their skill set for better outcomes in national and international competitions. Understanding the pulse of the legal profession and the importance of students’ training on Procedural Laws, which are better learned hands-on, Adamas University engages practicing advocates & retired judges for teaching such domains and coaching the students during moots. Professors make a difference in a student’s Law School journey. Here at SOLJ, the dynamic pool of faculty members is nationally and globally exposed to top institutions, including universities in the world’s top league, such as QS Rankings and NLUs.

3. About the conference

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has significantly influenced various sectors, including the legal domain. As AI continues transforming the delivery of justice, legal services, and access to rights, it also presents unique challenges concerning data privacy, algorithmic bias, ethics, and accountability. The School of Law and Justice, Adamas University, is pleased to announce a National Conference on “Access to Justice and Legal Rights in the Age of AI” on April 5, 2025. This conference aims to bring together academicians, researchers, legal practitioners, policymakers, industry experts, and students to discuss the challenges, opportunities, and legal implications posed by the emergence of AI in the legal landscape. The event explores how AI can facilitate or hinder access to justice and the protection of legal rights in modern societies.

4. Theme

We invite original and unpublished research papers on the following sub-themes (but not limited to):

1. AI and Access to Justice

   • Role of AI in improving access to legal services.

   • Use of AI in dispute resolution and legal aid.

   • AI and the delivery of public services.

2. Ethical and Legal Challenges of AI in the Legal Domain

   • Algorithmic bias and discrimination in AI-assisted legal processes.

   • Legal and ethical responsibilities of AI developers and users.

   • Privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity challenges in AI-driven systems.

3. AI and Judicial Decision Making

   • Use of AI in predictive justice and case outcome predictions.

   • AI-assisted legal research and legal document analysis.

   • Challenges of bias, transparency, and accountability in AI-generated judgments.

4. AI and Legal Education

   • Transforming legal education through AI tools.

   • Role of AI in legal research, drafting, and legal analytics.

   • Preparing law students for an AI-driven legal profession.

5. Regulatory Framework for AI in Law

   • Need for regulatory frameworks governing AI in legal services.

   • Comparative analysis of AI regulations across jurisdictions.

   • Establishing ethical standards and accountability mechanisms for AI use in the legal sector.

6. Human Rights and AI

   • AI and the protection of fundamental rights.

   • AI’s impact on marginalized communities and vulnerable populations.

   • Balancing technological development and protection of human rights.

7. Access to Justice in the Age of Digital Platforms

   • Legal rights in the era of online dispute resolution (ODR).

   • Enhancing legal aid through AI-powered platforms.

5. Eligibility

Students, Researchers, Faculty members, lawyers, and academicians are welcome to participate in the conference. Paper presenters will be allowed to discuss working papers too.

6. Registration Fees

Faculty/Academicians/Professionals: ₹1,500

Research Scholars/Students: ₹700

Co-Author (if any): Additional: ₹700

7. Prizes

Conference certificates will be awarded to all paper presenters and conference participants.

8. Publication Opportunity

Selected papers will be published in an ISBN-edited book/journal or a peer-reviewed law journal associated with the School of Law and Justice, Adamas University.

9. Important Dates

10. Submission Guidelines

1. Abstract Submission:

   • Authors must submit an abstract of their paper, not exceeding 300 words.

   • The abstract must clearly outline:

     • Research Problem: A brief statement on the issue being addressed.

     • Objectives: The goals and purpose of the research.

     • Methodology: The approach and techniques used in the study.

     • Key Findings: A summary of the main results or conclusions.

   • The abstract must be concise and informative, providing an overview of the paper’s content.

   • Abstracts should be submitted in Microsoft Word or PDF format via the designated submission platform.

2. Full Paper Submission:

   • The full paper must be between 4,000 and 6,000 words (including references and footnotes).

   • Formatting Requirements:

     • Font: Times New Roman, 12-point font size.

     • Line Spacing: 1.5 line spacing.

     • Margins: 1-inch margins on all sides (top, bottom, left, and right).

     • Paragraph Alignment: Left-aligned (not justified).

     • Title and Headings: The paper’s title should be centered and in bold. Subheadings should also be in bold and properly formatted.

     • Page Numbers: Include page numbers at the bottom center of each page.

     • Citation Style: The paper must follow the Bluebook 21st Edition citation style. Ensure all references, footnotes, and bibliography are formatted accordingly.

   • The full paper must be submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format for compatibility and ease of review.

3. Co-authorship:

   • A maximum of two authors per paper is allowed.

   • Both authors must have contributed significantly to the paper, and their names should be listed in the order of their contribution.

   • Co-authors must ensure proper writing, research, and paper formatting collaboration.

4. Plagiarism Policy:

   • All submitted papers must be original and unpublished.

   • Each submission will be checked using reliable plagiarism detection tools (such as Turnitin).

   • Any submission found with plagiarism exceeding 10% will be automatically rejected.

   • Authors must ensure proper citation of all sources to avoid plagiarism. All external references, ideas, and direct quotations must be cited in compliance with the Bluebook 21st Edition citation style.

   • Submissions must not contain self-plagiarism (reusing significant portions of previously published work without appropriate citation).
