About the Organizer:

The Pro Bono Club at the Faculty of Law, University of Lucknow, operates under the Nyaya Bandhu initiative of the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India. It aims to bridge the gap between marginalized communities and access to justice by engaging law students in pro bono work. The club’s mission is to empower vulnerable sections of society through legal aid, awareness, and advocacy while instilling a sense of social responsibility in future legal professionals.

The Pro Bono Club is built on the profound principle of “तस्माद्धर्मो न हन्तव्यः मानो धर्मो हतोऽवधीत्”, emphasizing that protecting the law ensures one’s own protection. The club envisions fostering a culture of legal awareness and assistance for underprivileged individuals who lack access to legal resources.

Details About the Event:

The Pro Bono Club is organizing 1st Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Pro Bono Conclave on May 3rd, 2025.The conclave aims to bring together legal professionals, academicians, and students to engage in meaningful discussions on the challenges and advancements in pro bono work and legal aid. This conclave is dedicated to the legacy of Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, a distinguished figure in legal excellence and public service.

Competitions at the Conclave

We are hosting three engaging competitions that will allow participants to interact directly with pressing legal and societal issues:

1. Pro Bono Chronicles (Pro Bono Report Presentation)

Teams will analyze and present reports on their institution’s pro bono or legal aid work, highlighting its social impact and legal solutions provided to underserved communities.

The competition shall be conducted in two rounds:

Online– draft selection round;

Offline– presentation round.

2. Policy Alchemy (Policy Drafting Competition)

Participants will draft clear, practical, and legally sound policies to address pressing societal issues.

The competition shall be conducted in two rounds:

Online– draft selection round;

Offline– presentation round.

3. Reframers’ Assembly (Amend Your Constitution)

Participants will propose and justify amendments to the Constitution of India, addressing contemporary legal and social challenges. This competition shall be held online.

Eligibility Criteria:

Pro Bono Chronicles: Open to students pursuing graduate (LL.B. 3-year and 5-year courses) and postgraduate degrees, as well as Research Scholars and PhD Candidates in Law of Pro Bono Clubs/ Legal Aid Centers.

Policy Alchemy & Reframers’ Assembly: Open to students pursuing graduate and postgraduate degrees, as well as Research Scholars and PhD Candidates from any field of study.

Winner: Cash Prize of Rs. 5100/- alongwith a Trophy, Medal and Certificate of Merit.

POLICY ALCHEMY

REFRAMERS’ ASSEMBLY
