About the Organiser

The Lucknow University Moot Court Association (LUMA) functions under the aegis of the Faculty of Law, University of Lucknow, one of India’s premier legal institutions. Established in 1921, with three teachers. Mr. Jag Mojan Nath Chak was its first Dean. The real architect was Prof. R. U. Singh, with great zeal and enthusiasm he organized teaching and research in the faculty in the systematic way.

He held the office of dean, faculty of Law till 1956. He also structured the Law Faculty of Delhi University and Law School, B.H.U. Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharam (Former President of India), Dr. Avtar Singh (well known authority on contract law) are the renowned alumni of the Faculty of Law, University of Lucknow.

The University boasts a legacy of producing eminent jurists, legal scholars, and policy-makers. LUMA is committed to promoting legal research, advocacy skills, and academic excellence through moots, seminars, and competitions.

Details About the Event

LUMA is proud to host the 3rd Dr. Avtar Singh Memorial National Article Writing Competition, held in honour of Prof. (Dr.) Avtar Singh, a celebrated author in the field of contract and commercial law. This competition invites thought-provoking and original articles from law students across India on the theme:

Topic: AI and the Law: A New Era of Legal Innovation

Participants are expected to explore the intersection of artificial intelligence and legal frameworks, assessing its implications on jurisprudence, practice, ethics, and more.

6. AI AND THE USE OF HUMAN CENTRICITY IN COPYRIGHT LAW

7. INCREASING USE OF AI IN IP RAISES ETHICAL CONCERNS

Eligibility

The competition is open to all Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) law students enrolled in any recognized law school or university in India. Only Sole authorship or co- authorship of a maximum of 2 persons are allowed.

How to Registration

1. Interested participants must register by April 19, 2025 through the official registration form: https://forms.gle/84zP3c7X9FXbfVm26

2. The last date for submission of articles is April 26, 2025.

3. Articles must be submitted in either English or Hindi.

Fee Details

  • Single Author: ₹400

  • Co-Authors (Max 2): ₹600

  • Last date of Registration: 19th April, 2025

  • Last date of Submission: 26th April, 2025

Submission Guidelines

1. The file must be in both .doc/.docx and pdf format.

2. Language of the Article should be either English or Hindi.

3. Each submission must have its own Title on the basis of the theme selected.

4. The body of the submission must be in the format as specified. [Font: Times New Roman, Kruti Dev. (For Hindi Articles) Size: 12, Line-Spacing: 1.5, Alignment: Justified].

5. The word limit for the articles must be between 2000-3000 (exclusive of footnotes).

6. The file name of the submission must be as follows: In case of Single Author — ‘ ’ e.g. Author’s name.docx/.pdf in case of Co-authors — ‘&’ e.g. Author’s name & Co-author’s name.docx/.pdf.

7. The last page of the submission must include the following information: Name of the Author(s), and the Name of the Institution.

8. The content should be the original work of the writer and should not have been given to any other competition or for any publication. Plagiarized content shall not be entertained.

9. Judgment shall be based on points given on the criteria of content, language & uniqueness. The decision of the judges shall be final and binding.

10. All rights arising from the submissions made by the participants are automatically vested in Lucknow University Moot Court Association, University Of Lucknow.

11. Only one entry from each participant will be considered. In case it is found that a participant has submitted more than one entry, then his/her candidature will be rejected.

12. Non-compliance with either of the guidelines mentioned above will result in an automatic rejection of the submission.

Prizes

  • Winner: ₹3000 + Certificate of Appreciation

  • 1st Runner Up: ₹2000 + Certificate of Appreciation

  • 2nd Runner Up: ₹1500 + Certificate of Appreciation
