About the Host Institution

Founded in 1909, the Department of Law, University of Calcutta, is one of the oldest and most prestigious legal institutions in India. With a legacy spanning over a century, it has produced distinguished legal minds who have significantly contributed to the judiciary, academia, and policymaking.

About the Competition

The competition aspires to establish a premier mooting platform in the national circuit, from Kolkata. This year’s theme is centred around Section 34 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, focusing on the “setting aside of an arbitral in a commercial arbitration arising out of an energy dispute“. The issue presents a critical area of legal discourse and remains relatively underexplored in moot court competitions.

The competition aspires to offer participants a unique platform that blends courtroom advocacy with the principles of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), promising a challenging and intellectually enriching mooting experience.
